DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP AWARD
Pope & Associates and the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission are looking for NOMINATIONS for a leader who has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to diversity within their organization and/or our community. The Merlin G. Pope, Jr. Award is given in memory of Merlin, recognized as one of the first diversity pioneers in the US. In l977, he coined the term “diversity” to describe the changing demographics of the U.S. workforce. He provided diversity training and consulting to over half of the Fortune 500 corporations in the US beginning in the late 1970s until his untimely death in 1998. Previous recipients have included John Pepper, Lynwood Battle, Chad Wick, Karen Bankston, Kathryn Merchant, Arthur Shriberg, Marvel Gentry Davis, Dr. Stephen Price, and Icy Williams. The award will be presented at the Connecting Cultures & Communities Awards dinner in May, 2010.
Criteria for this award:
· Has been actively involved in diversity efforts within their organization and/or the community
· Has proactively mentored individuals from diverse backgrounds
· Has demonstrated commitment to diversity especially in the face of resistance
· Holds others accountable for diversity efforts and results
· Through consistent diversity leadership, has made a difference
